I recently traveled to Nashville and ate many fabulous restaurants. One of the highlights was the famous Monell’s. The reason for its great reputation, in my opinion–the best mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy I have ever tasted; a fun communal dining experience in which you pass bowls around the table like you are part of a giant family; and really reasonable prices. I went to the Monell’s in Germantown, which I was told is the original Monell’s. Overall, I rate the food a 7.5/10 and the mac and cheese a 9.5/10. The dining experience was an 8/10–got to meet friendly locals and other visitors to Nashville, and the restaurant felt like eating at your grandparent’s house is a charming, familiar way. As far as price, I paid an unbelievably low $15 for lunch, and I found myself wishing I had three stomachs so I could eat all of the food over and over as we passed the bowls around the table.
